PostWhat game started it all for you?

Warning:If you don't want to hear my big long nostalgia story then just skip to the second part

So I was thinking back to when I was younger and what games I played/What games I loved the most and I kind of realized that my love of third person games all started when I was five and the games that I played then influenced what games i love today. When I was around 5 my mother bought my dad the first tomb raider game as a fathers day present and me, my dad, and my brothers all INSTANTLY fell in love also this was my first real video game and no matter how much i sucked at it i loved it(5 year old playing tomb raider=lots of deaths/puzzle induced rage quits). Now i later in life got a gamecube and metroid prime and I consider this to be my first exposure to an expertly done FPS game and I immediately fell in love with but later after that I got Resident Evil 4 and that became the game I have wasted the most time on. I of course now LOVE third person games and some first person games and I value single player games/ puzzling and challenging games over anything.

So my question is this, what games did you start with?, how old were you?, and do you see any direct links that might show how these games have affected your modern taste in gaming and your gaming style? i am truly interested in others stories on this.

When I was around the age of 5, the onlt console I had was a SNES. So I played it all the time. All i had was Super Mario World, and some other games i dont recall, but they were ALL platformers. I didnt experience shooter games untill later in life but i think that playing Super Mario World has given me a taste for platformers. So i never really stopped playing the new mario games, and still plan on getting mario 3D land when i get a 3DS and I still play the classics (Super Mario Bros, SMB 2, SMB3, SMW)

I could also go into Pokemon but I actually didnt experience a real Pokemon playthrough untill I got Leaf Green...

Oh jeez, we're going way way back with me! I was born in the 70's and grew up in the 80's so I have a plethora of classic Arcade games to list like Pac-man and Space Invaders.

I can't remember when I got into video games. I was young, though. Before my first console, I hit the arcades all the time. Whenever my family went to the mall, i beg for quarters and i would go down into the arcade. It was the Star Wars game. You had your green TIE Fighter launching there red asterisks at you and you got to do the trench run over and over again until you died. I never really played it much, but I was always hypnotized by the Tron arcade game.

My first console was the Intellivision. I remember seeing the commercials for Astrosmash and the contest to win $100,000 to get 100,000 points. It eventually died, but when I was in sixth grade the NES was out. I didn't have one right away, but when I saw two of my friends looking over a map I got curious. it was the Legend of Zelda. From that map, I knew I wanted to play this game. I begged my parents to get me the NES and the game for what seemed like an eternity. On my birthday that year, which is in the summer, my parents gave me the NES, a small TV for my room and the covetted gold cartridge that was Zelda. That's probably what solidified my love for video games.

The game that started my love for video games was golden eye. The funny thing was that the game nor the n64 were mine (brother 'borrowed' them from a friend, who lends someone their console!!). I played it everyday. I remember trying to be the first one to get the golden gun before my brother or sister got it. Fun times...

I've been gaming only since 2008 when I got a Wii along with Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I had played games before then like Zoo Tycoon and a handful of Jurassic Park and Sim games, but SSBB got me where I am now. You can guarantee I will wait in the cold to pick SSB4 when it comes out.

Got a Gamecube, a Collector's Edition of the Legend of Zelda(It included the original game, Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and a twenty minute demo of the Wind Waker), Mario Party 5, and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters. (Played it last night, just as fun as it was then.) Ocarina of Time was the first game that I ever won, and it took me a year and a half. I spent one week trying to find the first sword. When I got to the Water Temple, it took me six months to beat it, if you include the rage-quit time of 5 months. So, Ocarina of Time was probably what started it all. Later, Metroid Prime made a big impact on what type of game I play, but that was sort of a follow-up to OoT.

Same with me started with the Atari with pacman, spacinvaders, centipede, the jungle one where you jump over the holes and climb the vines, but then we got NES and mario was my fav, then I stuck with the Nintendo pretty much all the way through and love all there games.

BEST PACKAGE EVAR!!!! I got it as well.

First game for me was probably Super Mario 64, went to a friend's house in Junior Kindergarten and on the way there in the car I was like "do you have any 'video games'?"

Having never played any video game before, I was interested in this mysterious toy. Keep in mind this was before the internet or computers were common in households. We didn't have a computer yet in my house even. I think I must have been 3-4 years old.

Anyways, my friend was like, "Yeah, Mario 64, I have 35 stars!"

I was basically like "really? cool!" but I had no idea what this "mario" was or what he was referring to by stars.

THEN I FREAKING PLAYED IT AND WAS LIKE MIND=BLOWN

the rest is vorthistory.

The first game I actually played and beat on my own was probably Pokemon yellow version. I had played red and blue prior to getting my own gameboy, but my parents were always hesitant to buy me game related stuff, so i didn't get pokemon until when yellow was released. To be honest I prefer red and blue over yellow, but anyways, twas still epic. Every couple of months I still get the urge to play a pokemon game just because of the huge nostalgia and the fun-ness. I swear the most hours I have on any game has to be Pokemon Silver. I must have played it for 2 years without getting tired of it after it was released, not having any consoles and only a game boy color.

Yeah! Mario 64 was one of the earlir games i played as well. And pokemon guys... well il be honest with you, i didnt get into pokemon untill around fourth grade or so because our church had tolf our parents that pokemon was "Bad" for children because of the evolution in it. (This reminding you of my HP thread?) So in fourth grade my friends were playin with pokemon cards and i went ahead and peeked in and thought it looked pretty cool, so i convinced my parents to let me watch the anime, and eventually got a copy of gold from one of my friends. I was horrible at it because i didnt like training multiple members in my party so i uber failed. but then i got leaf green and eventually beat the E$ with a WAY overpowered Blastoise nick named WEEWEE. And then came along diamond and i actually started playing right.
And sadly, i never found a copy of emerald so i never got to play it. I did however get to borrow it and play through a few cities.

I started out on the Atari with a bunch of different games I can't remember when I was pretty young. Pitfall was fun but I hated those big scorpions.

The next thing I remember in detail was Castle Wolfenstein 3D, I was probably 6 or 7 when I first played it.

After that my cousin had a Super nintendo, I remember playing Mario and Killer Instinct (like Mortal Kombat) on it alot.

When my ninth birthday was coming up I asked for this huge ass Transformer and on my birthday my dad told that they didn't buy it for me, I got pretty upset and he asked me if there wasn't anything else I wanted instead and hands me a Nintendo 64 and Ocarina of Time. I had the biggest smile on my face, I'm suprised my head didn't pop off. Me and my brother played the crap out of that game and he pretty much learned to read from playing it. We spent weeks in Kokiri village just jumping off stuff, shooting signs, cutting grass, smashing rocks and getting completely lost in the aptly named Lost Woods. We eventually got to the forest temple but those werewolves and roof hands scared the shit out of us so we left and never went back. Probably spent the rest of our time jumping off the broken bridge to gerudo fortress and fishing at the lake (who else snagged the owner's hat off his head?).

For me, Ocarina of Time is where gaming stopped being a pastime and started being my passion.

Started when i was 7 yrs old. I was in the second grade. My Mom and dad bought me SNES along with Streetfighter 2( shocking right) as a gift for being a good son in school and at home. I grew up from that game playing against people at the Arcade in series such as Marvel Vs Capcom or Capcom Vs SNK series. On the other note my second game was Crono Trigger. Best Role Playing Game for SNES hands down. From that point, i play Video game from all consoles which involve Role Play, Fighting, or Something that is interesting......

The first game I beat by myself was The Legend of Zelda Link to the Past. Link to the past is still the greatest game someone could buy. Other than that Contra, Jackal, Double Dragon, D.K.C. and a few others are what started me off.

I think the games that started it all for me was Bomberman on the nintendo 64, Glover (64), Pokemon Snap, Harvest Moon (64), and Animal Crossing when my family got the Gamecube. Later on, when I was finally able to use a computer, I would play Black and White for hours on end. aah... good times... - w -

Either Super Mario Bros or Punch-Out!! on the NES.

I was one, I don't remember. :|

I still play the crap out of both games, though.

I grew up playing video games and I don't know life without it.
