So... Barroth Help Please?

Hi, I'm new to the forums here, even though I was one of those lurkers for a while... >.>

I'm not really that far into the game at all, it was recommended to me by one of my friends who plays. I'm doing the story mode, and I'm on the quest with the bulldozer monster, Barroth. My friend told me to make a full set of Qurupeco armor, and also taught me about armor skills (wow that's pretty intricate stuff).

I'm using a Greatsword, so Qurupeco wasn't too hard. But Barroth is always moving around, like a boxer in a boxing match. I can't seem to land my charge slashes. I always end up dying. -.-

Does anyone have tips for a greatsword user against Barroth?

Well Barroth doesnt usually stand still to take hits, so charging up a hit is tricky...
Id only charge up my GS hits when he is drooling, he stands still alot more and is much slower. Traps also last much longer when a monster is tired (drooling) so it provides more opportunity to hit him with charge slashes.
If hes not tired, id be happy with doing a draw attack on it. The best LR Greatsword for barroth is probably the Ludroth Bone sword+ or cataclysm sword, made from R.Ludroth and small Ludroth materials.

Barroth is really the first roadblock for a lot of new players. Just don't get frustrated. Sometimes it helps to stand back from the fight and watch his movements for a bit. Try to understand his patterns before you go diving in trying to land that GS charge. You might try lancing him if you're still having problems. It's easier to learn a new monster with lance because you can just hide behind your shield until you learn the attack patterns. (just don't do the turtle thing in a group, people can get kinda mad about that.) /yes/

Alright, here is what you do: At the end of Barroth's charging attack he does a movement where he swings his head and tail in opposite directions, during that movement run towards him and do a charge attack with your GS, and if you have time do a revolving slash. If he is about to attack after you land then you should roll to the side to avoid it. Make sure to keep your sharpness up so you don't bounce and try to hit good hitzones.

If you aren't feeling confident with GS against Barroth you can do as other people have said and use a lance. If you time it right you can counter his charge attack fairly easily, or you can just poke at his weakspots.

And if all else fails just use a sns, the king of not getting hit.
