| Greetings everyone,
I'm playing MH3U with my gf (always the two us of us with 2 Cha-cha's, Wii U+3DS) and I feel I can't really keep up with her damage output, but I don't want to keep her [progress] back.
She uses: Dual Swords I use: Great Sword (ever since Monster Hunter Freedom, but honestly I feel I suck.)
I'm wondering should I try to diversify and keep a 2nd weapon with me to switch depending on monster? (And which weapon would be the best choice? (I can't stand the shooting ones.))
or should I just keep my great sword and try to improve? (Are there any good great sword guides out there I should read?)
[TL;DR] Can't keep up with partner dmg, should I diverse my weapon set or just improve my GS skill?

| What do you mean you can't keep up? MH is a game PvE not PvP. It's not about competing between two players. More like cooperating. Each weapon should be played differently. If you expect GS to strike as fast as DS than you got this wrong. Master the art of GS patiently and do your job no matter what others are sayin. | |

| also, if you're chasing the monsters tail <i assume you are, the dual swords have a much harder time cutting tails than gs's> you probably spend more time running around than her, but that's the only way to get the tail done.
results are more important than overall dps.
i should add, use the charge attack whenever you can, it's more damage than the combo

| Just coordinate and be sure to do your part. If she's playing with the DS, let her go for the legs and other easy-to-reach portions of the monster's body to lay on some damage and you stick to cutting the rear aiming for the tails and hindquarters. The GS has great reach, an awesome drawslash and ofcourse the power-charge, but it's a relatively slow weapon for a new player who can't combine it's several elements.
Also, just be sure to pick up some of the extra work in the hunting- bring spare traps, horns and anything that's just helpful in tougher hunts. Courtesy goes a very long way in multiplayer MH.

| @Antari I understand it is PVE and not PVP. It is more that I don't want to be carried, I want to contribute. Carry my weight, feel a bit lacking.
Thank you for the support though.
@Tirith Either the tail or bashing the head to break it. I'm not using the charge that often(due to me missing the opportunity), but now I know which part to train on.
And it is good to know that going for the tail takes more running around.
@Paralykeet yeah I bring the potions, food and general supplies. Same with the charge.
[General] It is good to know that I can just stick with the Great Sword. Was wondering if diversify was `necessary', but good to know I can just stay with the Great Sword.
I'll go and practise my charges, I feel that's the part I can improve the most.
thanks for all the responses!

| Hey, I just wanted to add a couple of things that others haven't said yet.
First off, Greatswords are often better used as burst damage weapons. Meaning you don't really stick to the monster and keep doing DPS, you instead find an instance where you can reliably hit the monster with a charge attack and have at it. This doesn't necessarily have to be your style but it has been my experience that people do better like that.
Secondly, If you would still like to diversify then a hammer would be a good second choice for great sword mains. Timing charges is important, and that carries over from great swords, but it's also much more forgiving as you can move around as you are holding a charge. It is also faster moving, has good support capabilities with knocking out monsters, and combos more easily than a great sword.
Hope this helps a little bit.

| @MasterOnion: Well it depends. Hammers are known of being noob punishers for many reasons. For instance inability to block in opose to GS, which let novice players hide between giant sword. Without mastering both level of charges, canceling animations with rolls it's very discouraging weapon. Many attacks leaves you vulnerable for monsters paybacks. I definitely not recomend it for someone starting their adventure with MH. But it's a common mistake for many peapole to choose it for starters.
@Gunkame: Remamber it's all about enjoyment. As long as you and your gf are having fun it's all that matters.

Wohw, I love that you said hammer, because that would have been my first choice as personal preference. I'm going to make one with spare parts after my Great Sword has been upgraded.
@Antari18 I usually try to dodge with my Great Sword rather than block to prevent sharpness loss. So that shouldn't really be a problem. Both level of charges might be, I'll rea dup on that.
Thank you again for the responses. I"m sure to enjoy myself! Now I just know where to focus ;)

| Try to get good with charges.
A couple of my friends are using GS and they are new and all they do is slash then spin slash then spin.
I try to tell them that landing a single level 3 charge (properly) will do way more damage in a shorter period of time and let you dive out in time to reposition.
even a level 2 charge followed by a dodge is better than slash + spin + slash then hit.
