Known areas:
Spoiler:
Ancestral Steppe, Primeval Forest, Sunken Hollow, Frozen Seaway, Underground Volcano, Heavenly Mountain, Tower Top, Great Desert, Forbidden Grounds, Lava Island, Thousand Blade Mountain, Arena, 3D Arena, Old Desert
Unknown Great Forest (we will take a closer look at this one on it's own)
New mechanics in MH4U(these have also been addapted in Fronteir and were tested in other games prior to being added in the main series of MH. When asked Capcom Japan stated that a lot of the ideas had actually com from fans of the series in the west and tested in several games before being added into Monster Hunter, some of these were used in previous games such as the "lock on feature".)
Air attacks, weapon upswings leading into air attacks, environmental interaction (wall climbing/jumping ect.), Monster cling attacks (being able to hang on the monster for direct attacks)
Capcom stated that MH4U will include even more interaction with monsters, the environment and airial attacks over MH4 though did not go into detail.
Other additions:
Spoiler:
Capcom has stated that even though they have added a huge ammount of weapons and armors into MH4U they wanted to make the playability of Monster Hunter continue as well as the challenge continue long after you have collected everything. To do this they have added the Unknown Great Forest.
The Unknown Great Forest is basically 4's equivelant of 3's Moga Woods however it will have a huge change over anything seen in MH games before it to include the reward and Mining equipment, known as "Excavation Gear".
Unlike all other areas in the Monster Hunter series, the layout of the Unknown Great Forest is randomized, with the monsters, items, and terrain changing each time it is entered. You can save a particularly favorite map to play over and over again and share with others via streetpass and in Multiplayer session. Also each time the same map is beaten the level of difficulty as well as the rewards found within will increase in rarity.
Excavation Gear:
Armors can be from any monster from any game and will appear differently than their original design. The skills, slots, and defence will also be randomized (within peramiters).
This may mean you will end up with 3 Lagi Blademaster chests all different colors and all with different ammounts of slots and different skills. One may be really good and better than any of the actual pieces you had made from a quest monster while the others you may just want to sell off.
Trading:
In 4U there is an exstinsive trading system based on where you are at in the game.
The Wyverian Wholesaler can exchange monster materials that the players currently own for materials of monsters which are not available to be hunted in the game. These materials can be used to build various equipment from these monsters and may have improvements since their last game debut. In order to unlock the option to trade for these materials, certain conditions must be met in the form of completing Quests in the game.
Example: once you have cleared the correct 7:star: Guild quest you can trade a "Rajang's Tenacity" for a "Gaoren Thoracic"
There are many other new additions to MH4U over previous MH games, (I will add more later) if you have questions or would like to post a few or exspand on some yourself please do so.
It seemed to me that a lot of people didn't know just how much the game had actually been updated, though still a core MH game the amount to do has been really increased and Capcom has seemed to gone out of their way to keep people interested in playing and to keep them challenged.
Though much about 4U spacifically is still unknown and Capcom themselves have stated updates over 4U (even with 4 data being able to transfer to 4U in japan), those of us in the west should have a lot to look forward to early next year. If you have given up on MH or are getting a little worn out.. MH4U might be the time to give it one more go.
In the mean time here are some MH4 video's to show what we do know:
Spoiler:
Spoiler:
E3 2014 Treehouse gameplay 30 minutes
More updates: Several monsters now have an "additional" ragemode due to the Feral Wyvern virus giving them additional abilities when fighting them in later HR ranks.

That was just a misprint supposedly, the german event it was at had only 3DS versions present for it. No version for WiiU to be seen. Would be crazy if it was since the 3DS game isn't even out in Japan yet.

RIP WiiU version.
Tbh I'm fine with a 3DS version, thought a WiiU version would be nice. The only reason I care about a WiiU version is watching everyone freak out about it, since we've been told multiple times there isn't any plans for a WiiU version, but once there's a glimmer of hope, everyone flips out. A+ entertainment.

I so wish there was going to be a Wii U version, I don't trust the online capabilities of the 3DS at least with lag, and I'd just rather play on my TV screen and Pro Controller. I don't really go anywhere and when i do I have to drive so its not like I can play my 3DS on the go

I have and played (for a good 600 hours on both) both versions of 3U, on 3DS and Wii U. The only problem with 3DS version is (in my opinion) that controls were a bit worse than on Wii U version (I'm used to Wii Classic Controller Pro because of MH Tri, so it feels like home to me) because of the handheld itself (requires Circle Pad Pro).
The other problem for me was with the screen, it looks really small compared to TV and sometimes it means issues with visibility (on Wii U scope is way better). Other than that it's really great so I'm not concerned about the future of the franchise on handhelds. But If I'd have the opportunity to choose between Wii U and 3DS version I'd obviously choose Wii U because of aforementioned.
Really hope they release Wii U version with upscale graphics sometime in the future (even few years after release). I bought Wii U especially for 3U and I'd love to see another MH game on the system.

I sure it does run fine, but even on the Wii U, if just one hunter has a little slower connection, you can have deathly lag, even just a frame of an attack animation can screw you over.
I think that could be fixed by having the game pick the best connection in the room rather than the first hunter to enter

Nobody commenting new trailer?
- They strengthen Lance/Hammer even more with new attack possibilities (shield advance after evade for lance and quick combo after golf swing for hammer). This have concerned me a little, why those weapons need more buff? - new "cut" aliment that makes you bleed (you take damage for actions like running,[but not walking!] attacking and rolling). The only way to stop it is to crouch for a while or eat a Well-done Steak. - new "defend the town" quests which reminds me of arena but with more toys to play - double dragonators, moving cannons shooting explosive ammo etc. Fun stuff. - for New 3DS there's almost no reload time between areas of the map - second Circle pad on New 3DS works the same as laptop nub (not sure if I'm ok with this...). - ︎Selregios weapons will be enhanced with certain abilities - melee weapons will gain sharpness with evading, bows will have close range coatings as powerfull as power coatings and guns will gain the ability to auto-reload one bullet each time you evade. - There's new G rank hall with shops selling good items (probably bone husks, steaks, bugs, fishes and stuff!)

What I highlighted isn't all that new those were kinda part of MH2 invasion quests where you pretty much had to defend the town against elder dragons that came to attack the town and shen gaoren, but it seems like they are taking a new spin on it which I'm all up for.
Also the hall isn;t all that new either it's the one from MH2 unless there is another one I missed but not complaining we never got that guild hall/city out here in the west so it's new regardless to us.

The defend the town quests sound like how it was before Tri with either Lao Shan Lung, or Shen Gaoren attacking the fort, or when any of them along with Teostra/Lunastra and Kushala Daora would attack. If it's the same it's nothing new.
We still don't have word of if we are getting New 3ds yet or if there will be a trade-in program.

I recon that they main intention with New 3DS was to boost sales in Japan, as even Smash Bros. release didn't sell that much new systems. The reason was that pretty much every jap have at least one 3DS right now. Hovever I highly doubt they won't release New 3DS worldwide. It happened only once with Game Boy Light but those were different times.
About this new "defend the town" quests. I wrote it down because it's actually something new for 4th gen revealed in this trailer. Unless you have superpowers there's no way you're aware of it existing, so there's really no point in saying it's nothing new. I think it's worth mentioning in terms of new additions to the game for anyone who didn't have experience with all games in the series.
I'm not sure if I'm correct but music from the first part of the trailer sounds like main theme from Selregios (theme monster of MH4G). Sounds really good

Animal Crossing crossover!?!?!
There have also DLC episodes been anounced that have some short storylines with returning characters from earlier games. there has been no word about if this is free or paid DLC but seeing as Episode1 has 4 of these small stories it seems likely that this will be paid DLC.

Hell Nooo... if they'll go like Mario Kart 8 way with DLC this is really a major change in the main series which I'm not happy about. And it's probably all thanks to damn Nintendo forcing promotion of their own franchises. If it happens it's only a matter of time when they make events fully paid. This is not a good news for hunters... just look how many events they present for MH4 in japan. Imagine you need to pay for all.

Well If the DLC structure didn't change that much from the 3U, than it'll be possible to join those DLC quests if someone (who bought it earlier) host it for you. I can't imagine though how will this work for Capcom as only few would buy it that way. On the other hand if joining this quests will be banned for those who didn't pay for DLC, it'll be really hard to find party for those quests. Solo only? Weird...

If they are story elements, I'd think they'd be Offline things. I don't see a huge problem with this, even if they "gate off content" with these, it'll be like playing Freedom Unite/Portable 3rd, and having Tigrex Armor, versus playing MH3U and having Lagiacrus Armor, maybe they'll find a way to put "new" monsters in that are just monsters you can trade parts for. That way everyone has access to those Armors and Weapons, but the ones who have bought the DLC have missions to fight and can get those parts maybe easier than the trade pieces.
And the Nintendo Felyne Costumes, A. Probably won't be that great, and if they are will be great for the same reason other Armors are. B. Are no different than Japan having exclusive access to Pirate J Items, and Metal Gear Costumes, Metal Gear Crossover Missions, Frontier having Attack on Titan Costumes and Weapons, getting a crap ton of Anime memorabilia in their games, etc.
And lastly Nintendo isn't "forcing" promotion, They are doing what Sony would not, they are using their influence and power to drive sales for MH4U to an Audience that most likely wouldn't have any interest in this series at face value, but would actually enjoy the in depth gameplay, like what they've come to expect from the Nintendo Genre. Us on the Forum and in Japan already love this game, we get hyped seeing new and old monsters, but the whole rest of the Western Gaming audience is probably put off seeing these creatures that have no relevance to them, heck even the numbers sound off putting, when us MH fans hear 50-70 monsters we get excited, but when someone whose grown up used to "thousands of enemies/guns/players" a couple Monsters doesn't seem that interesting.

They're not making this game for western audience. They're making it primarily for Japan. The rest of the world is just indirect market. And all those DLC packs comes in Japan first. So quoting your statement "in Japan they already love this game" so why they do this? It's obvious it wasn't Capcom idea.
By "forcing" I mean putting too many of their franchises into MH4G like Animal Crossing, Zelda or Mario. Thank God Sony didn't do stuff like that on their consoles. I'm not exited for those new "Nintendo influence" costumes other than most people. I think they're unnecessary additions which kind of destroys the feeling of the series. They look so obnoxious and cheesy - completely out of place. If I want to play Mario guess what? I play Mario, not MH. And if that DLC will be paid, I'm sure it's Nintendo fault. It'll be the same as with Fire Emblem Awakening. There's some content for free but also paid DLC packs.
