Hyrule Warriors
While most are waiting until next year for a new Zelda game on the WiiU or for Smash Brothers to play as Zelda or Link, many seem to have forgotten that as of September 19th in the EU and 26th in the US you will be able to play as both and lots more beloved Legend of Zelda characters from throughout the many series of the games released so far.
Hyrule Warriors is a cross over (style) game created by Koei Tecmo and Nintendo combining the play style of Dynasty Warriors series with the universe of Legend of Zelda.
Currently there are 13 known playable characters listed for the game, each one with weapons and and skills that are upgradable as well as DLC costumes (for some) that have already been revealed.
Playable Characters:
■ Agitha ■ Darunia ■ Fi ■ Ganondorf ■ Ghirahim ■ Impa ■ Lana ■ Link ■ Midna ■ Princess Ruto ■ Princess Zelda ■ Sheik ■ Zant
(note you can unlock enimies as playable characters as well)
Zelda and Link have special preorder bounus DLC out fits from the following locations:
Ocarina of Time: Game Stop Twilight Princess: Amazon Skyward Sword: Target or Best Buy (not announced yet)
EU has been confirmed to come with a LoZ scarf in the initial release boxes:
Ganon will also have special outfits that will be given out as DLC to those who register the game on qualified club nintendo accounts:
Now for some gameplay information...
Overall HW is a hack n' slash game but includes many classic Zelda items to help complet puzzles and chalenges along the way.
The game also includes Local Co-Op multiplayer (like all Dynasty warrior games). One player will control their character on the gamepad and the other will use a procontroller using the TV (no split screen).
The online feature of the game and the only way of unlocking some of the characters is through the "Adventure Mode".
Set up to resemble the original NES LoZ game:
Adventure mode sets you up with challenges to complete and rewards you with special items and weapons. Though the setup is in traditional NES style the battles are in Hyrule Warrior fashion:
Though not all details of Hyrule Warriors have been revealed much of what has been seems to be quite interesting so far... anyone planning on picking it up next month when it releases? which character you most excited to finally play as?
In all seriousness, this is going to be pretty cool. I hope they acknowledge more than just Ocarina, TP, and Skyward. Was hoping maybe we could see Vaati or Agnhim.
I wouldn't count on it. I think they might have revealed all the characters for now. Maybe a few will come out for DLC, but I think Hyrule Warriors 2 would give Skull Kid a better chance.
I was beyond hyped to play this game. The pre-order exclusive dlc has changed that. I would have been willing to pay for dlc, the first game I would ever have done that for, but now I just dont care.

You say this like its actually exclusive permanently. It's more than likely going on the eshop well before christmas.
aaaanyway, I like how there's dlc costumes. The Twilight princess set was by far my favorite, even when presented these new costume designs. Other than that, i kind of like the twist on both Zelda (while they're working on their next open world title) as well as the minor twists on Dynasty warriors's formula for gameplay. But, it's just not enough to convince me to buy it. I've played dynasty warriors and I've played zelda, I'd rather watch the cutscene movies for its story that'll be uploaded online than actually buy the game at this moment.
But to those who haven't tried a dynasty warriors game, be hype for it; especially if you have played zelda already.

I'm mostly getting this game because I haven't played a Dynasty Warriors game. I've seen gameplay of the games and they look pretty fun. Playing the demo of this only convinced me further.
I've played sewveral Dynasty/Samurai Warriory games.. This is not 100% the exact same thing.. Yeah it's still hack n' slash large amounts of foes, take over their territory/ protect yours, and complete ever changing missions to complete the stage... But the added Zelda elements seem to add quite a bit to it and vice versa.
Reasons I see to get the game:
First off the look of the game is amazing. People keep talking about the HD zelda coming out next year and though yeah this isn't a "true" zelda game and may be a crossove/spin off what have you it has some of the most famous zelda characters and settings in HD now and some of the most amazing looking outfits. The game's beautiful from the backgrounds to the enemies and all the playable characters.
The playable characters are another great reason to play this game. It's really the first time (aside from Smash) you really get a chance to play with many of these characters and in most cases see how they interact with each other.
The RPG elements with the character and weapon leveling system in the warriors games and how they adapted it to this game so far seems really well thought out and the use of the traditional Zelda weapons is quite impressive IMO. They kept many of the puzzle solving elements zelda is known for and incorporated that into the Warriors style...
Reptative... well this is going to be a negative for many but a plus for some but hear me out. I actually like the repetative mindless beat em' up hacking away at the enemies in the Warriors games and for years there have been some Zelda enemies I wish I could just massively destroy in the same manor and have it feel.. well more rewarding. They have finally given that to me.
For those who have said they've played Dynasty warriors or Zelda.. don't exspect the game to be exactly eiter or just bits of both... Both companies put a lot of thought into the game, one thing I have been proud of with several of the companies who have done Nintendo exclusives as of late (just like Bayonetta, Xenoblade and so on), the quality of the games have been showing.
Also: It has been confirmed (for the US) that Best Buy will recieve the Skyward Sword DLC
Also many have stated that the eshop will likely recieve all costumes later on before the end of the year as paid dlc and indivudual stores are only recieving them as "free" preorder bonuses.
and if you are still having doubts about how the game plays, looks or is setup check out the stream of the game that Nintendo will be having this thursday before the Japanese release:
To up the Hype of the game even more several Gamestops throughout the US will be getiing demo kiosks to show off the game as well.
Even better they just announced a "Day One DLC" of a new game mode. But don't worry about having to spend cash for it.. it's free, like many of the other dlc's announced so far.
^ they keep hinting at additional dlc characters and other stuff later. This day one "Free" content has sparked even more speculation from a lot of people on that. Skull Kid is one I've been hoping for also... well.. maybe not as much as Old Man ;)
So far though if the pre-orders in the west and the estimated sales here match the Japan sales... HW will be a huge sucess for both the warriors franchise and Zelda.
Koei Tecmo have announced today that there will be annother update (in addition to the one already releasing day one in the west) for Hyrule Warriors along with 3 new DLC packs...
They have stated that those who buy all 4 packs bundled together will recieve an additional Dark Link costume that is usable right away! Though no Western pricing has been announced it has been stated that the west will recieve these packs and offeres as well.
•The “Backdoor” Hyrule Warriors pack: a new weapon, new scenario, an adventure map, and two costumes. Will release on October 16, 2014 for 1,200 yen. •Twilight Princess pack: a new character, a weapon, an adventure map, and two costumes. Will release in late-November for 1,200 yen. •Majora’s Mask pack: two new characters, an adventure map, and three costumes. Will release in January 2015 for 1,200 yen. •Ganon pack: two new game modes. Will release in February 2015 for 500 yen.
New Characters? I'm assuming the one from Majora's Mask will be Skull Kid, and the one from Twilight Princess is going to be either Hero's Shade or Rusl. Any word on the other? Maybe Tingle? I hear people actually like him in Japan, and he hasn't made any other appearance in the game.
With the Twilight Princess DlC, I'm exspecting Midna's true form to make it in.. And yeah Skull Kid is pretty much a given if not I'd be pretty suprised.
Tingle will probably make it for the comic value if nothing else... And as far as why they like him..??? I got nothing. Can't even think of a smart @$$ comment for that one.
Well, nintendo and koie.. or however it's spelled did say they were going to support it for a bit, so it is possible. and heck.. it's not been out that long in Japan or EU nad just releasing in the US this week (without a scarf ) and look at everything they've already released for it.
