Soooo...this game just popped up on my radar and I'm upset I didn't find it sooner. That being said, I want to spread the word in hopes others will enjoy it as much as I do.
League of LegendsLoL is a free to download/free to play MMO~esque RTS/RPG. If you ever played Warcraft III and enjoyed that you could control 'Hero' characters, LoL has developed along that branch of the game.
You(the player) take on the role of a summoner (you are the summoner, there is no Avatar for this in the game, it is just you behind the keyboard). As the summoner, you summon 'Champions' to do your bidding on the Fields of Justice in matches against AI (bots) or other Summoners and their chosen champion.
The champions are really alot like playing the Heroes in WCIII, however you are not responsible for controlling the creeps/minions. They have thier own AI, and spawn on a 30 second timer.
At the start of a match you choose a single champion from the list (either this weeks free to play, or ones you have unlocked) and start at level 1 (of a possible 18) and will have no equipment. By killing gold and xp are earned, and the real stat growth comes from the multitude of items that are able to be purchased and upgraded, however only 6 can be carried at a time. Important to note is that any growth that occurs in the match only applies to that match, and all champions will always start at level 1. My average match time is about 40 minutes to 1 hour, so don't expect to be able to get up and go afk for too long, you'll get ganked for sure. By completing matches you (the summoner) gain experience and level up, granting you more powerful summoner spells and abililties. These are persistant and tied to your profile, and can be used to assist your Champion on the Field of Justice.
This game is really about co-op RTS pvp with RPG elements.
For more info, I'd suggest checking out:
