PostSSB WiiU/3DS update

Well.. the new Super Smash Brothers game.. they decided to remove story mode and cutscenes from the game.

What had happened was someone stole/acquiered copies of early video of several of the games cutscenes and uploaded them to youtube and other internet sites.

The games creator, Masahiro Sakurai, said this in response “Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cut scenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”

it seems they decided to remove the mode more because they wanted it to be a reward and felt "the reward" they were giving to people was taken away from them after working so hard on it..

It seems .. odd however and may not be what it appears as I find it difficult to believe that something that has been such a big [art of the series would just be removed.

On the same note however it would allow the series and games to focus more strictly on the fighting elements and become more of a straight fighting game then it has been in previous incarnation.....

What do you all think? would they really remove story mode and cutscenes and if they do would you rather see SSB as a full blown hard core fighting series?

Got the game at the midnight launch, been playing it local, online and solo.. very little if any lag in any mode and not having any problems with the 3ds slide pad...

I love how much the game has to offer all around but it did seem there was a bit to get use to withthe controls.. And to be honest I actual like the solo better than the multiplayer matches just for the customization on the characters and the special move sets.. I've used up almost all my 300+ coins and ingame money collecting trophies and the classic, smash run and trophy rush modes have taken up much of my time. I also like that I kept having back to back "insert name" has appeared. It's way easier to unlock pleyers in this game than any other, heck it's way easier to unlock everything and gain points but overall a lot more difficult to master everything.

My only 2 complaints overall..

1: too many sword characters and 2: acheivements.. WTF.. Seriously you get an acheivement for turning on the game..?!!

Also, I'm not sure I've freinded everyone who offered to battle. Could we resticky the freindcode thread?

friends codes can be added to your own profile page but with MH4U on it's way and with many games like this using codes more havily.. I think it might be a good Idea..

I'll go do that now.

I'm curious if competitive smash will allow customization(customizable specials...no way in hell are they allowing the equips), or atleast a limited version of it.

As far as I can tell you no there's not going to be, at least as far as when it comes to the Wii Us releases. It's expected that the 3DS tourneys may hold competitions allowing customs, but that would be its own thing divided in same fashion as the "for fun" online battles. The competitive-of-old is still expected to be as it has been before custom movesets. Hence why I'm playing without them online/offline to not get too a'customed' to customs.

turning the game on was just registered in the Timeline not as a reward as far as i got that.
but yeah the first set of awards is pretty easy (they are only meant to get you to explore the game a little more)

^ oh i get that.. don't get me wrong. But still... I had to laugh about it. I don't think you really needed that to "explore" the game. either you were going to do it or not.

Oh.. Also does anyone actually know how to participate in the limited battles (curently Mario vs Sonic). I can veiw the rankings but I don't know how it actually works? Do you just play with one of the 2 characters online or what.. I really can't figure it out..

Yea those are the milestones you are referring to, those just record the date & time on when you did something. It's not really 'exploring' over just saying "hey, do did thus then. goid job!". The achievements are different in that they have required criteria to meet and hive a reward upon completion.

Conquest 'mode' isn't really a mode, It.s a global standings. Every week (I believe) 2 different characters are chosen to be ranked. The ranks are shown across the Americas, Europe, Japan, and a collaborative Worldwide standpoint. You contribute to the rankings by playing as either of the characters online, contributing points to that faction and increasing their percentage. The Character with the higher percentage at the end of the timeframe is the victor, and you receive a reward if your character wins.

Note that you can play as both characters online and given them points, it's not locked to whichever character you start out as. In such case you would recieve the reward if the character you contributed the most wins. As far as what the reward is... I don't know myself because I havn't participate in Conquest. I would believe it's gold coins as a standard, with trophies and customs as a higher rarity. but don't quote me on that.

^ Yeah, they don't really explain it in game all that well. I kept thinking you actually chose one of those two characters and fought someone playing the other.. Figured out that wasn't the case of course...

In all honestly, I don't think it was considered a big emough thing to really matter, let alone be explained. There basically is no point it other than seeing what character is more favored over in the community. It would seem safe to say that it was just a side-feature tech'd in towards the official 3DS release just for some extra added goodies. I Don't have a case for the game either, I got mine on digital download on east Coast time so I couldn't say how well the instruction manuel explains it (if it even does).

I think Conquest is a pretty neat idea. It reminds me of the time Team Fortress 2 had an update where it pitted the Soldier class against the Demoman class. It counted all the times one killed the other for about a week or so, and whichever side got the most kills got some extra goodies.

As for favorite characters, it's really hard to decide. Each character is pretty fun, but so far my favorites to play are: MegaMan, Dark Pit/Pit, Wii Fit Trainer, Meta Knight, Yoshi, Jigglypuff, and Zero Suit Samus. The top characters that I am good with would be MegaMan, Meta Knight, and Dark Pit/Pit.

^ Favorite character... The Mii's in solo play on Smash run. Seriously the custimization and the outfits are amazing. Being able to choose the costumes, class, specials, stats and then collecting and using those extra moves... Not to mention it's basically a self representation of you in the game.

Only complaint I have with that is you can't post a picture of it in the miiverse. I have all these amazing.. wait a second.

So got my DS back today on the way from school (left it at my friends house... Longest. Weekend. Ever.) and did a few runs with kids on campus. Apparently this milestone's a thing.

Also, the Japanese Smash 4 Tier List came out recently. I have to say I'm rather.... shocked... at what's made the cut versus what's been predicted to be tier'd here in the states. Seems Japan's got quite the different mindset towards what we do over on the other side of the globe.

Some people online really love to dodge roll. They'll dodge roll halfway across the stage for some reason. It's not the greatest tactic in the world. Dodge rolling away from Wario's bike is like... the dumbest thing you could do, yet people do it everytime and get hit. My brother showed me a replay of a pretty decent Shiek player he fought against, yet his favorite thing to do was dodge roll. Eventually my brother was able to call him on all the dodge rolls and the Shiek player lost.

*grumble grumble every time I play lucina theres always one or more...just had 2 all lucina matches in a "row"*

Online's getting better. Guess the people with shit connection are slowly quitting. As for that tier list, I'm not putting any faith in that at all. It has barely been a month, hardly enough time to draw up a decent tier list.

There has been a picture sharing thing on the 3ds for a long time.. the main home screen on the 3DS goes to the site to upload and share 3DS images. so that's been around for a lot longer than MK8 or tomodachilife, they just made it an actual link on the 3ds now to make it easier to get to and use.

Also.. @meta.. I've still rarely if ever experiamced that much lag.. we should probably play online at some point and see what happens.

It just depends on who you get paired with. If you're playing with people who have awful internet, then you will definitely get lag. Even Tom and I got some lag spikes, but those were few and far between.

I see someone else is having the Lucina luck I am online... I'm fairly tired of seeing Lucina and Shulk on just about every match. And I call total shit on that tier list as well. I sure as hell find it interesting seeing the demographic character selection across seas. But with that said I still don't see that list lasting at any extent, especially after seeing the lineup of contestents that just made Smash Nationals the other day.

we held a big event on campus yesterday for everyone who had the game to join and play. It was quite a turnout & everyone had alot of fun, and it was nice to see some real people who know how to play versus the lackluster online competition. With that said, I would definitely like to start playing with some of the smash'rs on here, as well.

Had a match with a player as Lucina. Every time I launched the opponent, he/she would follow with a counter.

It's always funny when your opponent tries to counter pick, but you end up winning anyway.

Also, footstool jumping Little Mac is the best and most insulting way to KO him. I did it twice in the same match to someone and they left immediately.
