PostSSB WiiU/3DS update

Well.. the new Super Smash Brothers game.. they decided to remove story mode and cutscenes from the game.

What had happened was someone stole/acquiered copies of early video of several of the games cutscenes and uploaded them to youtube and other internet sites.

The games creator, Masahiro Sakurai, said this in response “Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cut scenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”

it seems they decided to remove the mode more because they wanted it to be a reward and felt "the reward" they were giving to people was taken away from them after working so hard on it..

It seems .. odd however and may not be what it appears as I find it difficult to believe that something that has been such a big [art of the series would just be removed.

On the same note however it would allow the series and games to focus more strictly on the fighting elements and become more of a straight fighting game then it has been in previous incarnation.....

What do you all think? would they really remove story mode and cutscenes and if they do would you rather see SSB as a full blown hard core fighting series?

Sort of a side topic, but if you are planning on getting the Amiibo figures Nintendo has done a partnership now with "Loot Crate".

Information here:

Loot Crate Amiibo's

Basically you'll pay a "subscription" price and over 3 shipments (1 per month) you'll get 10 Amiibo figures plus additiona stuff (confirmed on Loot Crates Facebook). The exact price has not been stated though. Usually their monthly boxes are about $15 for about $40 worth of stuff. So it's likely you'll get the figures for a bit less than you would in store.

Also, FYI, Nintendo announced that the "SHULK" Amiibo will be a Gamestop exclusive.

So Canada Excluded-exclusive then. Great. I love those. Have enough of them in pokemon.

Interesting. I hope they tell us what each Amiibo does other than give you a training buddy in Smash. I don't want a whole bunch of boxes of the things, and have nothing to do with them. The only one I'm specifically interested in is the Link and Zelda figures, since they give a new weapon in Hyrule Warriors.

Vort, they didn't say anything about EBGames (which is Gamestop) or anything outside the US as of right now.. but likely it will go to Game in the EU and EB in in other places... Who knows though.

Zel, They work as a seperate character you can use or fight against in Smash. You can level them and make them stronger for battles in the 3 different areas Speed, attack, defence by "feeding" them the badges you collect in the other parts of the game.

In other games they will work differently depending on the game. In Hyrule Warriors non-zelda characters will unlock items and rupies while the playable zelda characters will give you weapons (like link with the spinner) and possible have other uses as well. In MK8 they give your Mii an outfit of themselves....

Sheik and Toon Link amiibos have now been announced as well and of course have been confirmed to work in both SMASH and Hyrule warriors..

Holy hell. I didn't think the loot crate was going to be so expensive. I think simply picking and choosing will be a lot less costly for me.

a sole Amiibo figure is priced at $14.99 a piece. If you're planning on having an Amiibo for every character in the game, the Loot Crate is your cheaper option. As for the more likely case, in which people will be getting their favorite characters Amiibos here & then, buying then individually is your choice.

I would also like to elaborate on Zels question of their functionality, at least in terms of in Smash Bros.

The Amiibos have 2 main functions in Smash bros. They can be used to store your character customizations on the figure themselves ( Smash Bros. is the only game in which data is saved on the physical figurines, as of now). Just like in Smash Run, using the Amiibos over time will pick up different items like trophies, custom moves, badges for customization, and such.
The figurines also create a ghost data, if you will, that you can fight against and train as you use them ( sadly tho, they cannot be used on Co-op features like Classic mode or Events). The AI for these is based on a level system that increases as you use them in battles; the more times you use them the higher their level goes up and they get stronger (level 50 I believe being its max).Because of this, the Amiibo AI is significantly more difficult to fight against than the standard level 9 CPU AI and serve as great competition for the more hardcore Smashers. The more you fight against the Amiibo AI, the more it adapts to your fighting style and becomes a challenge.

I do understand that. But I don't really feel like investing much in them without actual content incentives like in Hyrule Warriors.

yeaaaaaaa they're really not that worth for a loot crate anyway *cough*. Don't get me wrong, figurines off of Smash Bros. is pretty hype. But $15 per figurine just for content ain't really worth it for what ya get from them in other games. All the stuff they do in smash isn't really a big impact anyway: you can get all the items in Smash Tour & other modes as is and a sparing partner isn't that much different from jumping online & practicing. Amiibos are just basically cashcows. They're really hype and an awesome addition to Smash Bros. merchandise, but they really nothing that big that ya really need.

Let's face it.. The amiibo's are just dlc content for Nintendo 1st party games. The question is though, is the dlc (amiibo) worth the price of the amiibo figure.

For $15.00 you get

A collectable figure.

A more powerful apponent is smash that you can level and do all the stuff stated above (in oto's post)

An outfit for your mii in Mario Kart 8

A new weapon or in game items in Hyrule Warriors

and similar stuff in other games.

full list of compatable games:

Wii U
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Mario Kart 8
Mario Party 10
Yoshi's Woolly World
Hyrule Warriors
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Nintendo 3DS
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus

So does the DLC you get from those 9 games and a collectable figure equal $15 or so?

I would say if you play or own all or even half those games or ones coming out for them it does but if you "only" ever intend to play Smash that uses them or just 1 game.... Probably not worth it unless you really just want the figure.

Also, if any of you remember the "e-reader" for gameboy advance, this is nothing really new. Nintendo's just using figures instead of cards like it did with the e-reader.

And here's Nintendo new Amiibo/Smash comercial.. 2 people playing with toys:

It's $15 DLC that will be compatible with the game you're buying it for and for possible future releases.

If you ask me, the price will be justified if the content gained is reasonable. Unlocking a weapon in Hyrule Warriors is great imo. Makes me believe the Link Amiibo is good already.
Heck, it may have a similar use for Zelda Wii U...

My stance: Amiibos are good because of multiple game usage. If they were tied to one specific game... We'd have some problems.

Amiibos are also complete figures, so collectors (me) love them. Well... as long as the paint job is good.

Also that 1.0.4 update was today. I don't really mind any of the changes. No huge changes to characters I play as except for a faster Leaf Sheild and a buffed Meta Knight. I am also glad the Bowsercide doesn't guaruntee a kill for Bowser.

SSB WiiU/3DS update - Page 12 Original

Some Walmarts already have them out. From what i can tell the paints and detail is pretty well done.

Heck it almost makes me not want to open them just because the box is so nice. Also FYI, nintendo said they will continue to distribute some of the maiin figures but not the full line. So likely the non-mario ones will go away after a short period.

UPDATE: DK Game cube Bongo drums have been comfirmed to work for Smash Bro's! But I doubt too many people would play the game with only and (A) & (B) button. You can however use it for DK's final smash!

EDIT #2: Many of the reviews for Smash have now been released, I think it's to no ones suprise pretty much all the reviers love it in every way. A few complaints about too many stages having hazards (which can be eliminated through other modes and stage creator), and the review copies of the game did not have online multiplayer.

Aside from that most have scored it 9 or higher out of 10.

And all pretty much say the same thing in conclusion: "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the system’s best game yet, one of the best multiplayer experiences available, and one of Nintendo’s finest achievements."

#3:

wanted to post this picture. it's the release figure and not the promo one usually shown:

SSB WiiU/3DS update - Page 12 Marth-amiibo--pTRU1-19472219dt

not much different than the promo one, less changes than link.. They all still look great.

Also they announced store exclusives:

Shulk=GameStop

Meta Knight=Best Buy

Lucario=TRU

May want to preorder these if you want them, this is US. EU they have not stated where the exclusives will be going..

So Mewto has now been confirmed to be released as paid DLC some time after it has been given out as bonus.

Still not too fond of paid characters in Smash but at least they are give him to everyone, not just the ones that have both versions.

It's a paid DLC in Europe only if you don't meet the requirements of having both versions of smash.

and don't get your hopes up Oni, Sakurai announced yesterday that they are not working on any further DLC besides Metwo at the time being, nor do they have the upmost interest in making future character DLCs.

I thought amiibos would be sold out in a lot of places, but I did find one store that had a bunch. I've also been seeing a lot of pictures of people's messed up amiibos. That's why you don't pre-order that shit hahahaha.

Amiibos work surprisingly fast. They level up fast, they transfer save data fast... it's really cool. For anyone wondering: "Does this thing really learn from you?" the answer is yes. My first match with my Kirby amiibo had me grabbing him a bunch of times. The next battle immediately after, he tried grabbing for himself. Now at lvl 36, my Kirbs is pretty damn good at grabbing. My other amiibos don't grab as much because they don't have the ability to use stone; therefore I didn't grab them a lot. It's like having a child except it grows up at mach speed.

am i imagining this or has the 3DS version gotten some new bugs with the update?

i noticed this in Brinstar and Green Hill Zone: in Green Hill i was haning from the ledge then an NPC hung on and somehow after fallin down a little i got behind the wall.
simmilar in Brinstar, i went through the stage when i would have expected to grap the ledge...

this stuff never happened to me before...

I highly doubt that. For one, didn't Nintendo outright say that they weren't doing DLC for Mario Kart 8? Secondly, there's nothing but profit in it for them. If a risky title like Hyrule Warriors is getting DLC, there's no reason Smash Shouldn't.

Also, Sakurai nearly worked himself to death making this game. He's probably stepping down and takiing a break. There's no reason someone else couldn't take over to direct future endeavors for the game. (See Street Fighter X Tekken)

Besides. Is Sakurai the most trustworthy person you know?

Ok... normally i would agree in terms of disregard anything Sakurai says like this as purposeful anti-hype for later uber-hype, especially since he only said they don't plan on PAID DLC. But coming from an animator standpoint, I fairly understand where he's coming from on as why nothing is being planned outside of Mewtwo for now.

Modeling, rigging, texturing, etc. a character for something as immersive as Smash is a big hurdle. There's been 3 patches alone on the DS version within the month it's been released for balancing issues. a pressing amount of new character DLC would definitely require the constant attention to editing the game. With smash literary having endless possibilites with who or what you could add into it and the fanbase behind it, that would be an ever-enduring task. That'd be like making a new Godzilla movie starring every single monster to fight Godzilla from the past 60 years: That's a really, really tall order to fill. I don't blame them if they want to put the game to rest and just let it stand on its own as it is. Mewtwo being a sort of 'thank you' for those who supported the franchise is totally cool and, who knows, maybe the gateway to seeing more charactets in the Smash Bros. Universe. But if they don't feel like the work is substantial enough for the reward and don't start producing more DLC in the future, that's just fine & dandy too.

Personally, It doesn't matter to me either way. If DLC's gonna be a thing, all I'd want is to see the past scrapped characters make a return... even Pichu. I'd be happy with that more than anything. But if they, whatever. Game's still gonna sell like it always does. and I'm gonna keep playing for fun & for the competitive scene until the next one comes out. I'm just happy that there is a new Smash Bros. out period.
(plus... Mewtwo's kinda overhyped if you ask me...)

Y'know what my biggest complaint about these Amiibos are?
Why Nintendo made them look so damn pretty in their boxes.

I got 3 free amiibos on launch night as Samus, Wii Fit Trainer, & Donkey Kong. I am still struggling to get myself to ruin the boxes they came in and open them just because they look so perfect in their boxes. I can't get myself to do it... I don't know what to do with them now....

^ I always use a razor blade knife to cut open the bottoms only (leaving it as a flap) and sliding the figures in and out. This way the box still looks great and you can display the box and the amiibo's together.

Also for those who are thinking about getting any figures several have been listed as more rare than others, in this shipment:

Marth- most rare (few stores got any at all unless they were pre-ordered)

Villager- a few more available than marth

WiiFit Trainer- Less were shipped than the main Mario characters

Also if you haven't gotten the GC controller or adapter and want it.. Start looking soon. These were also in short supply (mainly adaptors) and are being sold for over $100 on some sites now.

Get that Wii Fit Trainer amiibo and rip it out of the box and then destroy it with a hammer. Then take that box and destroy it too.
I hate the Wii Fit Trainer! I dislike all of it's moves, and when it's a CPU, it beats me so bad. :/

By the way, my brother just got Super Smash for the Wii U, so we've played that some (As well as started watching the 4th season of The Walking Dead).

Got the Samus Amibo... Set her up on a 99 minute battle against 7 other characters. When it was done she was level 50 and had won. What was also nice was that she gave me 5,000+ coins and nearly 30 items (most being outfits and stat boosts).

I actual have found it more fun watching and fighting against her than many of the non-amiibo characters. She provides a fun challenge overall.
